Switching to LED Lights Was the Best Decision We Made

My wife and I bought a small two bedroom house last year. It was an old house with old wiring and old lights. The electricity bill in summer was shocking. We were paying eight thousand to ten thousand rupees every month for just two people. We knew we had to do something. That is when we started learning about LED lights. We had heard the term but did not really understand why they were better. After switching our entire house to LED, our bill dropped by almost forty percent. Let me share what we learned about LED lights and LED lights price in Pakistan.

Why LED Lights Are Better Than Old Bulbs

Old style bulbs, called incandescent bulbs, waste most of their energy as heat. You can feel it if you touch one after it has been on for a few minutes. They turn only about ten percent of the electricity into light. The rest becomes heat. CFL bulbs, the spiral shaped ones, are better but they contain mercury, which is dangerous if they break. And they take time to warm up to full brightness.

LED lights are different. They turn almost ninety percent of the electricity into light. They stay cool to the touch. They last much longer. An old bulb might last one thousand hours. A CFL might last eight thousand hours. A good LED light can last twenty five thousand hours or more. That means you might not need to change it for ten years. The only downside is that LED lights cost more upfront. But they save you money in the long run.

What We Learned About LED Lights Price in Pakistan

When I first searched for LED lights price in Pakistan, I was confused. A single LED bulb cost anywhere from one hundred fifty rupees to eight hundred rupees. How could the price vary so much? I asked an electrician friend. He explained that cheap LED lights use low quality components. The light might flicker. The color might be harsh and bluish. The bulb might fail after a few months. Good LED lights use better chips and better drivers. They give a steady, pleasant light and last for years.

We decided to buy mid range LED lights. For a nine watt bulb, the LED lights price in Pakistan we paid was about two hundred eighty rupees. For a twelve watt bulb, about three hundred fifty rupees. For downlights and spotlights, the price was higher. We replaced eleven bulbs and four tube lights in our house. The total cost was around six thousand rupees. That seemed like a lot at first. But in eight months, we had saved that much on our electricity bill.

How to Choose LED Lights

When you buy LED lights, look at three things. First, the color temperature. This is measured in Kelvin. Two thousand seven hundred Kelvin gives a warm yellow light like old bulbs. That is good for bedrooms and living rooms. Four thousand Kelvin gives a neutral white light. That is good for kitchens and bathrooms. Six thousand Kelvin gives a cool bluish light. That is good for offices and workspaces but can feel harsh at home.

Second, look at the wattage. For a small room, a nine watt LED is enough. For a large hall, you might need fifteen or twenty watts. Third, look at the brand. Do not buy completely unknown brands. Ask the shopkeeper which brands have the least returns. For LED lights price in Pakistan, you will find the best value in the middle range. Too cheap is risky. Too expensive is unnecessary for most homes.

Our house is brighter now, our bill is lower, and we do not worry about changing bulbs every few months. LED lights were one of the best home investments we made.
